Random Stuff

Yesterday was Collin's 9th birthday! I can't believe it's been 9 years since he was born. Every parent says that, I know... I remember so vividly going to the hospital at 5:00am 9 years ago! Contractions close together for 2 hours, first baby was born in under 4 hours of labor so the doctor said don't wait too long! We got there...they strapped me to all the monitors...not a SINGLE, solitary contraction for over 2 hours! The baby decided he was just fine and not really ready to come out afterall. Well, after the doctor came in at 7:30, we started a Pitocin drip and Collin was born shortly after 9:00am. Screaming, kicking, totally beautiful. I had been so sure he would be a girl that I was a little bit surprised when the doctor said "It's another boy!" But, he won my heart immediately. What a precious gift he has been to our family. We took him home on the hottest day of 2000 -- 114 degrees or some crazy thing! We were living in a small two-bedroom apartment while our house was being finished in McKinney.

How times have changed. Now Collin is 9; he loves to read; he loves to cook; he loves to play with Legos and create things; he loves to draw; loves to play his guitar or listen to guitar-heavy music; he loves to laugh and has a great sense of humor. He still is on his own time-table, though. Many times, the rest of us are anxiously waiting for him to get ready so we can get somewhere. He takes his own sweet time and, more often than not, we have to "help" him along a little! Funny how that hasn't changed. He is very in tune with what others are feeling. He cares deeply; feels deeply. I just know God has a big plan for him.

And on to less mushy things...Justin played his first t-ball game yesterday! Wow, that was a riot. Those little guys were just adorable in their uniforms (dads are cringing everywhere...) Half of them didn't know where 1st base was. Several just kept on running down the base line even though they'd already passed 1st base! It was hilarious! Justin hit both times he was at bat from the coach's pitches -- didn't even need the tee! He made a couple of good stops from 3rd base, too. Way to go!

Hope all of you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Be safe.
